Although I don't have any musical training, I enjoy listening to music. I have been playing around with an AI service (suno.com) that allows anyone to generate songs. The user types in a simple description of a desired song and includes descriptive genres or moods. The service generates lyrics and a song style based on the prompt. I thought I would share three examples.
"Wildwood at Oakcrest"
A few years ago, I created a website (no longer active) about our homeowner association. I had written this for the site:
Wildwood at Oakcrest is a fantastic residential community located near Tomball — just north of Houston in Cypress, TX — an inviting place to call home. The community features majestic trees and amenity detention lakes with residents-only catch-and-release fishing. Family-friendly common areas include a clubhouse, resort-style swimming pool, splash pad, playground equipment, soccer field, and duck pond. Golfers can enjoy nearby Tomball Country Club, Windrose Golf Club, and Houston Oaks Golf Club. Close proximity to State Highway 249 and Grand Parkway 99 makes accessing other parts of the metropolitan area easy. As part of the highly regarded Tomball Independent School District, Wildwood at Oakcrest students attend Wildwood Elementary, Grand Oaks Elementary, Oakcrest Intermediate, Willow Wood Junior High, Grand Lakes Junior High, Tomball Memorial High, and Tomball STAR Academy High schools. Come for the homes. Stay for the community.
The seeding process is limited to 200 characters, so I created a prompt from that text as:
Wildwood at Oakcrest, Cypress, TX, majestic trees, lakes, fishing, common areas, clubhouse, swimming pool, splash pad, playground equipment, soccer field, duck pond.
Here are the lyrics that AI generated:
[Verse]
In the heart of Cypress, there's a place we hold dear,
Majestic trees stand tall, the air is crystal clear.
By lakes where we fish, peace finds a way,
In Wildwood at Oakcrest, it's where we choose to stay.
[Verse 2]
Common areas gather friends and kin,
The clubhouse echoes laughter, the start of where we’ve been.
Swimming pools and splash pads, kids' joy takes flight,
Playground equipment’s calling in the warm Texan night.
[Chorus]
In Wildwood at Oakcrest, where dreams come alive,
With soccer fields and duck ponds, oh how our hearts thrive.
Underneath those ancient trees, life's blessings we count,
Here in Wildwood at Oakcrest, happiness abounds.
[Verse 3]
Morning mist on the water, rod and reel in hand,
Casting dreams 'cross the surface, caught a little bit of land.
Children's laughter on the swings, sun sinks low,
In Wildwood at Oakcrest, it's where life's rivers flow.
[Verse 4]
Neighbors become family, bonds around the grill,
Shared stories ‘round the fire, nights grow still.
The magic of this small town, under moon and starry light,
In Wildwood at Oakcrest, everything feels right.
[Chorus]
In Wildwood at Oakcrest, where dreams come alive,
With soccer fields and duck ponds, oh how our hearts thrive.
Underneath those ancient trees, life's blessings we count,
Here in Wildwood at Oakcrest, happiness abounds.
Since I live in Texas, I added "country song" to the prompt, and through the magic of AI, here are those lyrics set to music:

"Drink Machine Works"
My wife's brother-in-law designs and makes frozen drink machines (drinkmachineworks.com) using Autodesk Fusion 360. His website describes one of the machines as:
RELIABLE FROZEN BEVERAGE DISPENSERS
PROVEN TECHNOLOGY – READ ABOUT DMW
Constructed with higher quality parts to last longer, require less maintenance and create a better frozen drink texture. Our models are easy to clean and maintain, and are designed for maximum uptime, with an expected lifespan of 8+ years. Our units are quiet and have a direct drive system that won’t wear out like moving parts units. Finally, we use solid state controls for a more efficient dispenser.
I culled this down to a prompt:
Drink Machine Works, frozen beverage dispemsers, daiquiri, margarita, quality parts, built to last, easy to clean, maximum uptime, quiet, direct drive, solid state controls
Suno generated lyrics as:
[Verse]
Frozen drinks flowing machines at work
Built to last in a world gone berserk
Easy to clean with parts prime and true
Maximum uptime we never feel blue
[Verse 2]
Whirling daiquiris margaritas in hand
Solid state controls make the stand
Quiet drive hums like a distant scream
Direct power fuels this dream
[Chorus]
Drink Machine Works punching the air
Quality parts make us unaware
Frozen slush in every glass
Raise 'em high let the moments pass
[Bridge]
Industrial beat in this wild age
Quiet hum but we're center stage
Mixing colors call it a parade
In the night neon lights won’t fade
[Verse 3]
Cold libations from dusk till dawn
Rumbling engines keep churning on
Steady drive never miss a beat
Every sip feels like sweet defeat
[Chorus]
Drink Machine Works punching the air
Quality parts make us unaware
Frozen slush in every glass
Raise 'em high let the moments pass
Since the machines are made of metal, I suggested alternative rock as part of the prompt. Here is what I got:

"Mother's Day 2003"
In 2003 I wrote my wife a poem in her Mother's Day Card. My lyrics were:
From the bonfire at the start
Where we were just acquaintances
To our journey into parenthood
Where our inferno has only grown stronger.
How can I love you for all these years?
It's because we are not who we were.
We are who we've become.
Though I have no voice for singing,
This is my song for you.
The canvas would be blank without you.
You are the palette that brings my life to life.
"Thank you for this delicious dinner."
You are the Popeyes in my Kentucky Fried world.
What was once L'air Du Temp is now Lucky.
Your scent is always so sweet.
Through your ritual of daily lotion,
Your skin is soft to my touch.
Life is full of challenges.
Moving is never easy.
Friends come. Friends go.
Through it all we are together still.
It's because we are not who we were.
We are who we've become.
The Suno process has a "custom mode" where instead of generating lyrics, the user can supply them. I did and got the following song:
As I am using the free version of Suno, there are some rules:
- Attribution (e.g., “Made With Suno”) is required.
- Songs are for non-commercial use, so uploading them to music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc., is not permitted.
- Suno retains ownership of the songs and artwork, but they can be used for non-commercial purposes in compliance with Suno's Terms of Service.
As I mentioned, I have no musical training so I find the process very satisfying. My guess is that professional chefs find the use of Betty Crocker cake mixes a travesty, but for most regular people, it allows us to bake cakes that taste pretty good. I think that these AI-generated songs (my playlist of 10 songs that Suno.com and I have generated so far) sound like something one would hear on the radio.
Musical composition via artificial intelligence is alive in the lab.
