While we await the birth of our first grandchild, we are staying at the Guesthouse Hotel in Chicago. Our room has a kitchen, so parents-to-be, Blake and Stephanie, brought us groceries in the morning. We took advantage of that with a scrambled egg and toast breakfast. Later in the day, it was time for lunch. We will be here for about a week, so we're going to save more of the groceries for later. Using my phone, we looked at nearby menus and found a place called O'Shaughnessy's Public House that had "Shepherd's Pie Egg Rolls." That sounded interesting - something we wanted to try.
I used Google Map walking directions and saw that it was about a 15-minute walk.
Though it was raining, the Guesthouse Hotel had umbrellas in the lobby that guests could borrow. We put on our coats, grabbed the umbrellas, and made our way there. To prevent the possibility of COVID-19 infection, Plan A was that we would get our order to go; however, there were only a few patrons in the place, with tables very far apart, so we decided to eat there (Plan B). The Shepherd's Pie egg rolls were great. Sheryl had a Buffalo Chicken Salad. I had Shepherd's Pie. We were in/out in a few minutes.
We wanted to walk back by a different route so we could take in different scenery, so rather than just retracing our steps, I put in "Guesthouse" into my phone, and we followed the directions. We were walking, and walking, and walking. It was cold and raining, so the fun was starting to evaporate. We reached our destination. When I entered "Guesthouse" into Google walking directions, here's what I (unknowingly) got:
Yikes! There's a "Guest House Motel" and a "Guesthouse Hotel." Here is the recovery plan:
So we saw more of Chicago yesterday than we planned. It will all be worth it when our grandson arrives.
Misnavigation is alive in the lab.
[Note: For this blog post, I recreated the Google Map walking directions on my phone this morning from the Guesthouse Hotel.]
