“Wood feeds the fire which burns it.” – Leonardo da Vinci
My wife's brother-in-law, Gregory Lyle Gonsalves, 67, lost his courageous fight against kidney cancer on November 4, 2019, with family by his side. Born in San Antonio and residing in Pasadena for the past 30 years, Greg lived a full life dedicated to his loved ones, hard work, and craftsmanship. He retired from Archer Daniels Midland in 2017 after 41 years in the grain export industry. Greg is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ann, his daughter, Leah (Mark), and son, Matthew (Christina). His granddaughter, Adeline, and grandson, Barrett, knew Greg as “Big Daddy.” Greg became the man’s man he was because he was raised the right way and is survived by his brothers, Stephen and David, and sisters, Paulette, Kay, Beth, and Ellen. Greg was preceded in death by his sister, Mary.
Greg was an avid builder and award-winning Gulf Coast Woodturner, and the Gonsalves-Price family members will always remember Greg as someone who could be counted on for a helping hand or dose of humor. In high school, Sheryl and I used to double-date with Greg and Ann. I was the bartender at Greg and Ann's wedding reception. Greg was the photographer at Sheryl's and my wedding. Greg was the wood that fueled everyone around him.
