Today Autodesk employees in the United States have the day off for Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day where we honor those who have sacrificed their lives in service to the country. This is not to be confused with Veterans Day. Although we do honor the fallen on Veterans Day, that day is also a celebration of the living who have served honorably in the military in both wartime and peacetime.
The Purple Heart Medal is awarded to members of the armed forces of the United States who are wounded by an instrument of war in the hands of the enemy and posthumously to the next of kin in the name of those who are killed in action or die of wounds received in action. It is specifically a combat decoration.
I am thankful to be able to celebrate both days with my family — my son in particular who will be graduating with a marketing degree from Sam Houston State University in Texas.
Tomorrow we will be back on the job responding to your feedback about Autodesk software. For today, we will think about those purple hearts who could not be here with us.
Recognition and appreciation are alive in the lab.
