ReCap 360 Mobile was a technology preview for viewing, annotating, and sharing 3D laser scan projects created in Autodesk ReCap 360. ReCap 360 users could bring their projects into the field to streamline maintenance, demolition, and construction workflows. ReCap 360 Mobile also included iPad-enabled features such as offline mode and directly attaching new photos to annotations.
The technology preview has ended. The technology preview ran from March 24, 2016 to July 1, 2016. During the 4 months, there were 364 participants out of 412 applicants, 42 forum posts, 93 email messages exchanged.
The number of participants was intentionally low compared to the average Autodesk Labs technology preview because the technology preview was conducted on iPads. Each participating customer required a TestFlight license, and the team had a limited number.
In terms of the amount of feedback, users come to the project to download the software or get started with a web service. After that, even though they are using the technology, they don't always come back to the project to post in the forum. That's why we also have the email alias — in this case, [email protected]. This provides participants with options regarding how to share their thoughts. In the future, it may be a good idea to build feedback mechanisms into the technology previews themselves. For example, we could have placed a button in the iPad application that emailed us feedback from within the application. Does that sound like a good idea? What is your preferred way to share feedback with a company? Let us know at [email protected] or post a comment to this blog.
When a technology preview ends, one of three things can happen:
- Graduation — the technology preview takes the next step. This could involve becoming a beta or a product or production service.
- Retirement — the technology is no longer available. It is not necessarily dead. It may come back at a later date or in a different form.
- Extension — the team decides to collect another round of feedback. A new end date is selected. When applicable, a new build is generated that has a time-bomb set to the new end date.
The technology preview has retired from Autodesk Labs. Thanks to the ReCap team for conducting a technology preview via Autodesk Labs. Thanks to the Autodesk Labs community for participating in the preview.
Retirement partying is alive in the lab.
