The Solar Analysis for Revit was first launched on October 20, 2014. At that time, we thought we would collect feedback until the end of the year. That's what I had posted to the project home page way back when; however, the technology proved to be so popular that we extended the technology preview (a few times) until November 16, 2015. My most recent update to the project home page to this effect was on September 14, 2015. Well, the time has come for the technology preview to actually end. Those of you who have participated in a technology preview know that when a preview ends, one of three things happens:

Graduation | — | take the next step towards production (e.g., beta, product release) |
|
|
Retirement | — | not necessarily dead (could come back later in another form) |
|
|
Extension | — | conduct another technology preview (in essence, additional time — like what we did before on this preview) |
In this case, the technology preview will graduate from Autodesk Labs. Technology preview users can look for a new release as early as this week. I have no direct insight into the team’s schedule, and we never announce release dates in advance, but I would think that the team would certainly want to have the production version ready for Autodesk University on December 1, 2015. Thanks to everyone who participated in the preview, put the technology through its paces, shared their feedback, and shaped the future of the Solar Analysis for Revit technology.

For those of you whose lighting and solar analyses were obtained via one install, the lighting still works, but the solar part has expired. The team informed me that the next bundle release will actually have even more tools than just solar and lighting. Migration and updates will be taken care of automatically, and users will not lose any functionality or stored data.
Correction: Solar Analysis for Revit will become part of the Insight 360 package instead of being placed on the App Exchange. The initial support will be for Revit 2016 but support for Revit 2015 is being considered.
Autodesk Insight 360 will contain:
- a significant update to Solar Analysis for Revit, including a new UI and solar photovoltaic analysis tools
- the most recent update to Lighting Analysis for Revit, including custom analysis times, and a new automatic LEED Report generator tool
- energy analysis integrated into a full analysis package in Insight 360.
