The free Solar Analysis tool for Revit technology preview lets you perform solar analysis on the faces of a mass in Autodesk Revit. You can visualize and quantify the distribution of solar radiation on various areas of a mass by taking into account the shading effects from adjacent objects, such as vegetation and surrounding buildings in an urban setting. The technology preview can also help with shading device design (effective strategies in blocking unwanted solar radiation) and aperture placement (allowing wanted solar radiation).
Autodesk Labs technology previews are about the technology. It's early in the development cycle so we're interested in know if an idea is viable or not. It's so much better for us to have 3 developers spend a month and get validation before 30 developers spend a year on a technology. Customers help shape the future of our technology. In turn, we don't waste time and money working on technologies customers are just going to hate anyway. It's a win-win.
With a recent update to the Solar Analysis plug-in, we stumbled across an installer issue. The latest update corrects that problem. It is available for download from the project. So sometimes in addition to learning about our technology, we learn about installer technology as well.
A corrected installation is alive in the lab.
