TED is devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading that started out as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. With two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Vancouver, Canada each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil each summer, TED includes: the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
TEDx are independent TED-like events that can be organized by anyone who obtains a free license from TED by agreeing to follow certain principles. TEDx events are non-profit but may use an admission fee or commercial sponsorship to cover costs. Autodesk participates in TEDx events regularly. For example:
Roohi Saeed is one of our Directors for Brand Communications. She shared this report about Autodesk's participation in the recent TEDx Tokyo event.
- Date: May 31, 2014
- Venue: Hikarie Hall, Shibuya Tokyo
- Theme: Connecting the Unconnected
- Attendees: 500 people.
For the first time, Autodesk was a core partner of TEDx Tokyo. Autodesk’s presence was managed by Kazuomi Ikeda, Japan PR Lead, and Yutaka Shiozawa, Head of Japan Technical Specialists. 20 employee volunteers manned the booth during the one-day event. We had the largest booth and drew the biggest crowds with fun, interactive experiences: 123D Catch photo booth, Leap Motion / Kinect stations, Smithsonian x3D Explorer, Instructables Japan crafts (e.g., bracelets and key chain holders), and 3D printing.
Thanks, Roohi. Thanks to all our volunteers in Japan: Atsuko Minatoya, Chiaki Kawada, Gaku Harada, Hideo Kase, Hisayoshi Kato, Jun Matsui, Kazuomi Ikeda, Nobuhide Fujii, Satoko Shimada, Shinya Hasegawa, Tae Kusano, Takashi Umezawa, Takuhiro Shimizu, Tomoyuki Tsukishima, Wonjin John, Yoichiro Kadoguchi, Yoshiyuki Watanabe, Yuji Fujimura, and Yutaka Shiozawa.
TEDx is alive in the lab.
