Earlier I shared my favorite It's Alive in the Lab blog posts of 2013. That was based on my bias. I use Google Analytics for my blog which means I can tell which blog posts were your favorites. Not you personally, but in the aggregate of It's Alive in the Lab readers. Here's how it works. I use TypePad to place the following code in the configuration for my blog.
<!--Google Analytics CODE-->
<script type="text/javascript"> var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script>
<script type="text/javascript"> var pageTrackerBlog = _gat._getTracker("UA-4460969-19"); pageTrackerBlog._setDomainName("blogs.com"); pageTrackerBlog._initData(); pageTrackerBlog._trackPageview(); var pageTrackerRU = _gat._getTracker("UA-4460969-1"); pageTrackerRU._setDomainName("none"); pageTrackerRU._initData(); pageTrackerRU._trackPageview(); var pageTrackerCom = _gat._getTracker("UA-2967772-45"); pageTrackerCom._setDomainName("none"); pageTrackerCom._initData(); pageTrackerCom._trackPageview(); </script>
<!--Google Analytics CODE-->
When TypePad serves up my blog to you, it loads the code into your browser. Your browser executes it and makes a request to google-analytics.com. If you wish to see for yourself, you can do a "view source" on this blog post and see the code near the bottom third of the page. When you view the blog page, the Google server records information from your browser session. I just see the results as a set of numbers in a bunch of categories. Those UA-9999999-99 numbers are associated with my Google account. I don't get any personally identifiable information about you specifically.
So based on this approach, here are the top 10 blog posts that had the most page views during 2013. Some of these were written prior to 2013 but were still heavily viewed during 2013.
