Design Night on December 5: The shape of things to come

Design Night is open to the general public, It is an events program at the Autodesk Gallery. At each event, guests explore a different theme — such as biomimicry, light, or robotics — that challenges the conventionally narrow definition of design. The theme is reflected in all aspects of the event, from the activities guests enjoy to the food they eat to the music they hear. The result is a fun and fascinating venue for exploration, networking, and the exchange of ideas. So far we have had:

On Thursday, December 5, 6-10 p.m., the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco will host another Design Night: The shape of things to come, where we will explore the design's impact on the art of sculpture. So get your statuesque self over to Design Night and experience:

• A talk by renowned sculptor Bruce Beasley // more

• Mini animal sculptures

• Collaborative sculpture (who says the artist is a lone wolf?)

As an art form, sculpture goes way back. And though it may be old, it’s exploding with new possibilities. It’s the branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions, and it’s tailor-made for new technologies, technologies that are redefining what it means to be an artist. From modern-day Michaelangelos using 3D printing to tap into their own creativity to archaeologists preserving art for the ages with reality capture, we’ve only just begun to realize what’s possible.

The previous Design Nights have sold out quickly. Registration is required and ticket pricing is as follows:

Admission fees include admission to the presentation, as well as an open bar, food, music, and hands-on activities. Almost all Design Nights have sold out in advance! So make sure to go to the event site at high noon.
