Are your system graphics all messed up?
Project Falcon is our free technology preview that simulates air flow around vehicles, buildings, outdoor equipment, consumer products, or other objects in a virtual wind tunnel. Results are available in almost real-time in response to changes in wind-direction and speed that you specify.
On March 15 when the Project Falcon team provided an update of the technology preview, I updated the system requirements page:
Two of the key changes for Microsoft Windows users were:
- DirectX 9c
- DirectX End User Runtime // more
As part of the feedback we receive, we are seeing some reports of "immediate crashes" when attempting to use Project Falcon. In many of these cases, we have found that users had not updated the graphics capabilities on their systems. This is what technology previews are all about. If this technology preview were to take the next step, we could update our installer to check for these requirements or perhaps install some of the necessary system components to make Project Falcon run successfully. Thanks for the feedback.
So if you are experiencing problems using Project Falcon, you may wish to verify that your Windows system meets the requirements. If they do not, many people have had success by deleting the settings.ini file found in "My Documents/Autodesk Project Falcon" and installing the latest Direct-x runtime. The graphics requirements did get more stringent with this last update. You can always contact us in a variety of ways.
Advice is alive in the lab.
