While our other teammates from the Office of the CTO were finishing up at TED, I was on The Rock Boat. The Rock Boat is a 5-day Carnival Cruise from New Orleans, Louisiana to Cozumel, Mexico where rock concerts are featured as the ship makes its journey. Though this was the 12th time The Rock Boat had sailed, this was a first for my wife, Sheryl, and me. We saw performances by:
-
Thursday
- Sister Hazel - hits you may know include: "All For You," "Champagne High," and "Change Your Mind."
- Will Hoge - whom you may know as the guy who recorded the opening theme song, "You Make Me Happy," for the TV show Still Standing .
- Vertical Horizon - hits you probably have heard include: "Everything You Want," "You're a God," and "Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)"
- Marc Broussard - hits you have a slight chance of knowing include "The Wanderer," "Lucky," and "Only Everything."
- Sister Hazel - hits you may know include: "All For You," "Champagne High," and "Change Your Mind."
-
Friday
- Michael Tolcher - hits you may know include "Sooner or Later" (theme song for TV show Life As We Know It), "Bad Habits," "Mission Responsible," and "Speed Feels Better."
- Story Tellers - featured Will Hoge, Kristy Lee, Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon), and Tim Warren (Alternate Routes) who talked about their songs and then performed them.
- Freddy Jones Band - hits you have a chance of having heard before include: "In a Daydream," "Waitress," and "Mystic Buzz."

Saturday

Sunday

- Freddy Jones Band
- Kristy Lee - whom you may remember from the seventh season of the American Idol TV show with a hit "15 Minutes of Shame."
- Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers - hits you may have heard include: "Shady Esperanto and The Young Hearts" and "Maria."
- Dugas - from Canada (alternated between English and French lyrics)
- Vertical Horizon
- Michael Tolcher
- Sister Hazel
- Mardi Gras Celebration
- Brian Jarvis - "On and On" was the only song of his I had ever heard of before.
You can see that that was a lot of shows. Also, there were three theme nights where travelers were encouraged to dress up:
-
Pirate Night
-
Americana Night
I think I was talking when this was taken. -
Mardi Gras Night
As you can tell from these 2 pictures, Sheryl picked our costumes.
A good time was had by all. Even with all the shows and activities, I was a reasonable adult who got a reasonable amount of sleep each night. By the way, this is what a ship's cabin looks like for those of you (like us) who have never been on a cruise before.
Scott is now back alive in the lab.
