From the Autodesk web site:
Autodesk Moldflow injection molding simulation software, part of the Autodesk solution for Digital Prototyping, provides tools that help manufacturers optimize the design of plastic parts and injection molds, and study the injection molding process. Companies worldwide use Autodesk Moldflow simulation software to help reduce the need for costly physical prototypes, avoid potential manufacturing defects, and get innovative products to market faster.
Autodesk Moldflow Insight provides plastic injection molding simulation tools for use on digital prototypes. Autodesk Moldflow Insight helps you study the injection molding processes in use today and provides in-depth simulation and optimization of plastic parts and associated molds.
Our newest technology preview, Radium for Moldflow Insight, extends the capabilities to include: simulation of temperature fluctuations; modeling of resulting final part stiffness, shrinkage, and warpage; and location of air vents and prediction of the pressure build-up caused by entrapped air.
Unlike some of the other technology previews, this is not an add-on. This is a stand-alone application. Operation of the application requires a Moldflow Insight license. The application will run until September 8, 2010. At that time we will determine, based on feedback to date, if we wish to collect more feedback via another technology preview. Plans for what happens after one or more technology previews have not been decided. So here's your chance to directly influence what happen next. Try it. Let us know what you think at labs.moldflow.radium@autodesk.,com.
The videos for this technology preview are available on YouTube or for download (for those without YouTube access). If you can watch them on YouTube, please do so. Comments are read and appreciated.
As noted on Wikipedia, radium was originally used in self-luminous paints for watches, nuclear panels, aircraft switches, clocks, and instrument dials. In essence, radium lets you see the dials much like this technology preview lets you see the characteristics of your injection mold and design.
Looking for feedback on our analysis tool is alive in the lab.
