Inventor Fusion is our technology preview of a modeling application that lets you work parametrically as well as directly. We are collecting feedback on its UI and capabilities via [email protected]. You can download it from the Labs site:
Let's talk about the download for a moment. Inventor Fusion has two parts: the Inventor Fusion stand-alone application and a Change Manager add-on for Inventor. The installer that you download from Labs installs both the application and the add-on. This is very handy, but there is an alternative available if you do not need the Change Manager. If you just need the Inventor Fusion application, you can try a new "sandbox" version of Inventor Fusion. It's the same Inventor Fusion application that you get when you use the normal installer, but this one is different because there is no install. You just download the EXE from the Labs site and run it. No install. Everything you need is in the EXE. If you place the EXE on a USB stick, you can take it with you and use the Inventor Fusion Technology Preview on computers wherever you go. If you also keep your data on that same stick, you are all set. To get the no-install version of Inventor Fusion, click on , fill out the form, and then select the button on the download page.
When you use Internet Explorer to visit the Labs site and download the EXE, you are offered a choice of Run or Save.
-
When you select Save, you download a copy of the EXE on your local drive. The first time you run the EXE, you get a shortcut on your desktop that points to the EXE where you placed it on your local drive.
-
Had you selected Run, Internet Explorer would have downloaded the file to the browser's Temporary Files location. The resulting desktop shortcut would point to the EXE at that location. The next time you cleared you browser cache. the EXE would be deleted, and your shortcut would contain a broken link. For this reason, please Save instead of Run.
Hoping you are as excited about the no-install version as we are is alive in the lab.
