Arizona has a new law that took effect January 1, 2009. Residents can have a license plate frame holder as long as it does not cover the name Arizona on the top of our license plates. If the license plate frame holder covers the name Arizona, we can receive a $130.00 ticket. It was our responsibility to be aware of the new motor vehicle law and replace the obsolete frames with ones that do not cover our state name.
Law-enforcement officials say the law will help officers differentiate between in-state and out-of-state vehicles, a difficult task given the state's profusion of specialty plates. Arizona issues license plates in more than 60 styles. I believe the state is offering a grace period in January while people scramble to make the adjustments. I simply removed my old holder.
Sharing a bit of Arizona lore is alive in the lab on a Friday.
