Project Showroom is a technology preview that establishes a vision for a service for home furnishing suppliers to enable their customers to visualize their products in real-life room settings. At this time, the technology preview is under development.
- We are working on improving the rendering as explained in Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We are balancing level of realism against the amount of time you have to wait to see the picture.
- We are working on improving the user interface as explained that it is a work in progress. We want to make Project Showroom easy to use.
With regard to the evolution of the user interface, I created a crude video that shows some of the progress:

- non-YouTube: showroom_ui.mwv
Whereas we originally highlighted items to be replaced in a scene, this was not wildly received. Now we have a tooltip that pops up. This location of the tooltip identifies where an item appears in a scene instead of the temporary flashing. Feedback is that you prefer this. In addition, we have added textual descriptions to the mini-browser. This helps you identify the various items.
We thank you for the feedback we have received so far and continue to work on incorporating improvements to Project Showroom as we develop the technology preview. Keep those cards and letters coming in: [email protected], Project Showroom category on this blog, or the Project Showroom discussion forum.
Working to provide photorealistic rendering to users with just a browser is alive in the lab.
