A Ms. Roberta Goddard emailed our Autodesk Inventor LT feedback alias: I have both Autodesk Inventor R10 and the Autodesk Inventor LT Technology Preview installed. Our company has not yet upgraded to Autodesk Inventor 2008, but the Autodesk LT Technology Preview provides a glimpse of what's new. Right now I am using both applications. Whenever I launch one or the other, I get a message as follows: "Inventor.exe needs to reregister with the operation system and the following programs (some program names) are running and may prevent registration from successfully completing. Autodesk recommends termination the offending processes to ensure proper registration. Terminate these processes before continuing with the registration?" This is followed by three buttons (Yes, No, Cancel). Why am I getting this message when I switch versions? And how do I keep this from happening? |
Inventor QA Engineer, John Agcaoili, provided the answer:
The term 'Reregister' in this dialog is a bit of a misnomer. This is not referring to your Product License registration. It is referring to activating the correct libraries associated with the particular version of the software you are using.
For example, if you start the Autodesk Inventor LT Technology Preview, then close it, and start Inventor R10, you will be prompted with this message by R10 when it starts, because R10 detects that the actively configured program files are from the technology preview. Once you respond with Yes, you can continually close and restart that particular application and will not be prompted with that message again until you start the other.
There's nothing you can do to prevent this message. You just need to respond with Yes when you see it. It should only happen when you switch back and forth from one to the other for the first time.
