Today is or 30th birthday as a company. It was on April 26, 1982 when our founders formally incorporated as Autodesk, Inc. Autodesk has grown considerably from a handful of employees meeting in John Walker's garage to ~7800 employees today spread around the world. When the founders would work at John's garage, they would often go home to walk their dogs. Eventually John told them to just bring their dogs over so they could keep working. This lead to Autodesk allowing dogs at work - a tradition that has endured at our San Rafael offices to this day.

By the way, the company got its name because the founders wanted to automate the business man's desktop with programs like word processing, spreadsheets, etc. - what we know as Microsoft Office today. In pursuit of this, they developed an engine to display data to the screen, changed course, and the rest is history - 30 years of history. |
