A shortened form of a distance corresponding to a parallax of one second, a parsec is the distance from the Sun to an astronomical object which has a parallax angle of one arcsecond. That makes it about 19 trillion miles.
In terms of Autodesk Labs, Project Parsec is a technology preview that allows AutoCAD Map 3D 2012 users to easily import and map GIS geometries and attributes to AutoCAD Map 3D industry models from: SDF, SQLite, Esri SHP and geodatabase files, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle databases. That gives it access to about 19 trillion files. [OK, I exaggerate.]

As with all of our technology previews, the emphasis is on feedback. This technology preview does require SP1 of AutoCAD Map 3D 2012. Please try this out and let us know if the technology preview works for you by emailing us at labs.map3d.parsec@autodesk.com or by posting to the discussion forum. If this is a bad idea, stop us now before we go too far. If this is a good idea, let us know so we can proceed at light speed. Your experience shapes the future of our technology.
Space travel is alive in the lab.
