Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need.
I need a hero.
"Holding Out for a Hero," Bonnie Tyler.
As part of our Earth Day observance in San Rafael, Autodesk Labs Marketing Manager, Amanda Collins, noted that she was looking for a Halo effect. She mentioned our work with Architecture for Humanity and the Open Architecture Network (OAN).
So naturally we were gratified when we saw that OAN released our joint effort to its production servers the other day (http://www.openarchitecturenetwork.org/). Project Freewheel is now integrated with the OAN site. For example, you can see the Biloxi Model Home : Parker Residence. Constructed from standard wood members and common construction materials with a minimum of cutting, this design is a flexible kit of parts that can be customized easily to the particular needs of a family:
Now architects, engineers, and others who volunteer their time and energy can inspect designs that were previously only available as images. They can pan, zoom, and see greater detail to help turn these worthy projects from ideas to helpful reality.
Supporting our partners who make the world a better place is alive in the lab. In the words of David Bowie, "We can be heroes - just for one day."
