Inventor Product Manager, Sam Antos, provided me with a new utility that will help Autodesk customers be a little more green. I was happy to place it on the Autodesk Labs site for download:
The Sustainable Materials Assistant for Autodesk Inventor aids you in making responsible material choices that can reduce your design’s environmental impact while still meeting your other requirements. For example, you can get answers to questions:
- Does my design contain toxic materials?
- Does my design rely on hazardous materials?
- Is my design made of recyclable materials?
- What is my design's overall carbon footprint?
The Sustainable Materials Assistant adds data fields for all the materials that are included in Inventor’s materials library. You can populate these new fields with information about the Toxicity, Regulatory compliance, Recyclability, and Carbon Footprint of any of these materials. Accessible from Inventor’s Bill of Materials Editor, the Sustainability Report analyzes and aggregates the sustainability properties based on the materials and components that comprise a given design option. You can easily output a Sustainability Report to communicate the sustainability of your design.
We are eager to get feedback on this utility. So please share your thoughts with us: labs.iv.sustainable@autodesk.com. Thinking green is alive in the lab.
