Recap of What's New in Project Freewheel 1.0.1

There are several new customer facing features included in Project Freewheel 1.0.1:

  • Real-time Collaboration - Share: Invite, Chat, and Join
You can share your designs with others in a sharing session. They see what you see. People can take turns "driving" the session. All of this happens in real time. It's the next best thing to being there. When the session is ended, a URL exists where those who missed the session can pick up where the others left off.

  • Markups
This is not your father's Freewheel. This is the new Freewheel. No longer limited to just viewing, sharing session participants can markup too. The markups include highlighting, freehand sketching, and callouts. Each participant gets assigned a different color, so you can visually determine who "said" what. A markup list lets you navigate from one markup to the next - essential for 3D since markups for 3D designs are not yet true 3D objects themselves.

  • File Management: associate upload with Autodesk Labs login and delete files
Since you now login to Autodesk Labs to upload files, your files are associated with your login. This means you can manage your designs. You can see a list of them using the "My Designs" item from the File menu. You can send out email links to previously uploaded designs or delete designs when they are no longer needed. Your sharing sessions are also tracked similarly using "My Sessions" from the File menu.

  • Navigation Wheels
The 3D View Object Wheel with Center, Zoom, Rewind, and Orbit commands has been added. The 2D Navigation Wheel with Zoom and Pan commands has also been added. Using the same interface that debuted in Autodesk Design Review 2008, the navigation wheels are convenient ways to navigate designs. This interface was reviewed favorably on WorldCAD Access.

  • Server-based presentation-ready graphics
You can see an artistic rendering of your design using the same technology that is used in Autodesk Impression.

So check out the new Project Freewheel. Working with design data without the need to install additional software is alive in the lab.
